Thanks Everybody

(thanks to Jared for the above image)

I guess I need to come to terms with the reality that I no longer update this blog. This has happened for a few reasons: 1) I took on more responsibility and got busier in other parts of my life, including my (ahem) "real" job and more volunteer responsibility at my church. 2) the value of ads-per-traffic seems to be dropping and has for some time, as well as traffic to single-serve blogs like this one, meaning the ad revenue was no longer a compelling reason to keep it up. Partly because of changes in the web and advertising market, partly because of the prevalence of ad blockers.

I am now realizing that my life looks like it will get busier in the future (the same stuff plus adding a baby humorist to our family at the end of the year!), and blogs are not getting more popular, so it seems wise to acknowledge that maintaining this blog will stay a very low priority for me. I still have plenty of photos in my email, so I suppose if I change my mind I can always post more.

Anyway, I didn't want to let the whole thing fully die without saying thank you to all the people who were regular visitors, regular commenters, and regular submitters over the past decade+. Doing this blog (and the book that came out of it) was a fun and weird journey, and I am grateful it was part of my life, even if my life is different now. You can still find me on twitter, where I mostly do not tweet about grammar or punctuation.

Thanks. Seriously. Thanks.

  7. Yeah, best of luck; you've provided good chuckles down the years. :-)
Seems all the best blogs are going the same way: Apostrophe Abuse and Passive Aggressive Notes are also seeing fewer and fewer updates these days.
How dare all you people get lives! LOL

  11. Hi Bethany,
This is my first visit to your blog, and receive the sad news you are ceasing updates. Your book brings our whole family so many smiles. We bring it out every couple of a years for a couple of months of prime reading in the ... uh ... "powder" room. We love your sense of humor!
Totally understand about the economics of blogs (and don't use an ad blocker for just that reason), and especially with a baby on way (Congratulations!!!), probably time to concentrate on other things.
Thank you so much! Good luck on your next endeavors.
Love, Your fans from Berkeley, California.

  12. I hope you come back to update it every so often. I've followed this blog for quite a while and just tripped over it again yesterday when I recommended it to my boss (as we were laughing over a coworker's abuse of quotation marks). Your perspectives are hilarious and I think it's a fun way to educate people on how to properly use an aspect of punctuation - so you're sort of providing a valuable public service. I also write a couple blogs myself and I do understand how life gets in the way sometimes. I started dating a great guy a year ago and I think I've only written two or three posts on one of them in all that time. I'm not walking away from it though.

Best wishes to you (I was tempted to write "Best wishes" LOL) - I hope you at least keep the domain name active so this archive remains. Sometimes when I need a good laugh/escape I like to come here and look at some of your posts!!

  14. Bethany, I was hospitalized when you posted this. I'm sad the blog has shuttered, but I'm very happy for you. Looking for rogue quotation marks added a lot of joy to my life, and friends regularly post them to my Facebook page. Best of luck, see you on Twitter!

  16. I hope you'll still let it sit, though, because it's a good collection. :-)

Best wishes, and I hope you'll get the urge to add to these sometime.
