According to "about.com" freeze is a common misspelling of frieze. The interesting thing would be for a sidewalk to become a freize for a second time. Who would have expected it to have done so even once.
I don't know what really will happen to the sidewalks, but keep your car snow off of them! Thanks, Heidi.
