except grandma of course

Adrienne spotted this one with her friend Sara (pictured) in Nashville IN, which she describes this way "a tourist destination for fall foliage and former home of the Little Nashville Opry, which, interestingly enough, burned down about 10 hours later (not my fault.)" This fudge shop offers samples for some members of your family.

I have been watching this clever site off and on for a year or two. I just wonder what it is people are actually trying to say when they use quotation marks. They have something in mind, I guess. Maybe it is a way of emphasizing what they are trying to say. So then the quote marks are in place of bold face or italics, I guess. That is just my "theory."

Maybe they give you two pieces (hence the 's' in samples) and you have to share them with however many persons there are in your 'entire family'

Maybe only the family with the last name "Entire" gets free samples.

Pets exempted.

Well, the guy in the shop is my husband, Francis and they gave HIM a free sample, even though his surname is not Entire... so there goes that theory.

SO Adrienne, does your husband often go around impersonating the 'Entire' family?

There is nothing wrong with the use of quotations in this picture. It's not meant to modify the meaning, it's just a conversational quote. Like: The owner said, "It's for the entire family."

Matt, it's "The 'Blog' of 'Unnecessary' Quotation Marks" NOT "The 'Blog' of 'Everything-you-wanted-to-know-about how-to/how-not-to use-quotation-marks-in-every-possible-instance"
