I don't even know what to say about this thing that Marie sent me. I'm not sure what it would mean without the quotation marks, but I'm fairly certain that it means a softened version of that now. Or something.
This is a case where the quotes are absolutely appropriate. Clearly, the creator of the sign is playing with the line between the sign as description and the sign as expression of voice.
Lots of people hated Churchill. The actor Richard Burton was very vocal about his loathing for him. Churchill was one of the most hated figures in British politics between the wars. People thought he was a crazy-ass war hawk.
I agree with those who see this as appropriately punctuated. I drive past this mysterious sign on a weekly basis. It's on a closed storefront. The name of the place is "I've Got 99 Problems for Shizzle." Whatever it was, I'm sorry they couldn't make a go of it.
Maybe it's a church cry-you know: Don't hate Chuuurch! Don't hate Chuuurch! Oh Yeah, 4 shizzle, Don't Hate CHUUURCH! Then someone got tired of the tune, and it became "Don't hate" CHUUURCH!
This was an actual storefront church on the southside of Chicago at the northeast corner of Roosevelt and Mason. The sign that hung off the front stated, "I Got 99 Problems 4 Shizzle."

Maybe instead of being an admonition not to hate church, it's a descriptor of the church, alternately written the Chuuurch of Don't Hate.
Eh. Maybe not.
Fo ma nizzle
I first read the three exclamation points as an I and two Ls, and thought the sign said "'Don't Hate' Churchill." I mean, who hates Winston Churchill?
And what's with the uuu in chuuurch??
Alicia was right. This is actually a case where the quotes were needed.
Haters... :)

Chuuurch: is something snoop said, i think it means this is like gospel, the truth, absolute.
So.. "Dont Hate" is its own phrase. Meaning dont be jealous and rude just because someone is doing it better than yourself. Cars, money, women, etc.
"Dont be jealous" this is essential.
