listen to the discussion

Chris spotted this at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. There is a lot of material in this little sign. I wonder if "Susanna" is a pen name for a man, and I think we all have some ideas of the smut that's in "holiness" books.

  1. My students know all about how to "join" a discussion, especially in early morning classes. 1) Forget your book. 2) Nod off at regular intervals. 3) When called upon to speak, wildly cast your gaze about the room until it lights on someone who has the book and looks alert, then blurt out "I agree with her!" 4) Sit back and look very satisfied with yourself.
    Repeat as necessary.
(I leave the other bits to other people to interpret)

  2. Susanna Wesley, born Susanna Annesley, was the daughter of Dr. Samuel Annesley and the mother of John and Charles Wesley. She was born in January 1669 and died July 23, 1742.

“…although she never preached a sermon or published a book or founded a church, is known as the Mother of Methodism. Why? Because two of her sons, John Wesley and Charles Wesley, as children consciously or unconsciously will, applied the example and teachings and circumstances of their home life.”

No wonder her name is in quotes. She's over 300 years old!

  6. I would rather join a discussion on "science" and "theology" - those are usually a lot more fun (until someone loses an "eye").
