rollerblades, or whatever

Jocelyn writes, "I'd like to think that, rather than actual roller blades, the person is selling a more exciting kind of personal transportation. Like a unicycle. Or maybe a unicorn."

  1. my guess is they aren't rollerblade brand, but an off brand

  3. I'm calling shenanigans on this one. The could easily be some other brand of inline skates, which would make the quotes correct.

  4. While I agree with the argument that they're an off-brand of inline skates, I doubt that the individual was actually thinking of that when making the sign. It's like Kleenex or Q-tips, where the name brand has become what you call that item (although more frequently now Kleenex is not used for tissue, probably due to the introduction of Puffs). So based on the likely state of mind the individual was under at the time of making the sign, the quotes are misused even if it turns out that they're appropriate because the skates are an off-brand.

  5. I bet it's nothing. I reckon he's got some scam going. Like the buyer sends him cash and he denies ever having anything.
He just sends them the box.
    Rollerblades in the rhetorical sense.
