Abe writes, "Found at a 4th of July celebration in Taylorsville, Utah on the side of the United Fire Authority Safe Kids trailer. The quotation marks, coupled with enticing depictions of fire, serve as a conspicuous nod to the child pyromaniac demographic."

GAH THE DOUBLE OPENING QUOTES WITH THE SPACES!!!!
ReplyDelete*freaks out*
YES, DOUBLE OPEN QUOTES ARE THE DEVIL.
ReplyDelete*freaks with Jesse*
That sign makes me want to burn things ...
ReplyDeletegot a match?
ReplyDeleteI'm with Jesse and Laws - This one really is especially troubling.

ReplyDeleteIt's not just the mismatched quotes either; the typeface was apparently kerned by a chimpanzee on lithium. This one really has it all. Misplaced quotation marks that don't close; genuinely bad type layout; and clip art that should, indeed, be set fire to.
I now want to go play with fire.
ReplyDeleteAnd I want to bitch-slap the person who chose to use double opening quotes!
At this point, all I can see is the bad typography...forget the superfluous quotes. Somebody give these people a clue!
ReplyDeleteTaylorsville! Well, I think I lived there for a month or so when I was born...thank goodness not anymore, or I'd have to "own" some of that "spelling" about "fire." Well, maybe not. No, no, I wouldn't. Nor would I own any of the typographic mistakes...yes, I do care about that, and I'm freaking with Jesse and Laws-of-Fizzix.

ReplyDeleteHmm, that sign looks really familiar. Where have I seen it before? Oh yeah, it's punctuated just like all of the emails I receive at work every day.
