what standards?

Thomas saw this in Peebles Scotland. Does putting "standards" in quotation marks raise or lower expectations?

  1. They could also be referring to the brand of toilets known as "Standards" (in quotation marks, of course.)

  2. I can almost hear the sarcasm in that sentence

Sort of a "we hope our loo is up to your satisfaction, yer friggin' royal highness!"

  3. Ew. If "standards" aren't sufficient for their toileting needs, perhaps they need the "megas."
