  2. I know what happened here. The guy's wife wasn't around at the time of making this sign, so whilst he was sure of the date he didn't have a clue as to what day it would be and so he took a guess at Monday (having worked it out on his fingers). However, just to cover himself he used the QM's. As such they're not at all unnecessary. His wife would have known straight away what day of the week the 12th of any month would be!

    This is how it would have been in my house at least.

    Finnie, my ex-husband could tell you the day of the week for any date in the future, even years from now, within about 10 seconds. Whee math savants!
