sounds sinister

Rob saw this in Marmaris, Turkey.  I'm guessing you don't want to be around for this event.

  1. This is baffling. Why would you have a circumcision at a hotel? And why in an outside public area? And why announce it to everyone?

  2. @andy; because for some people a circumcision is an important life event that you invite family to attend.

Some make a bigger deal out of the celebration than others, and the celebration may require the space and services available at a hotel or banquet hall.

Especially if you're planning to serve cocktail wieners and bloody Caesars.

  3. ...and why is it taking five and a half hours?

  4. Do they warn the hotel guests so that they won't dial 911 when they hear the screams?

  5. Especially if you're planning to serve cocktail wieners and bloody Caesars. Oh, bless you for that laugh.

    That whole sign is wonderful.

  6. That's one long circumcision!

This is one of the best ones ever.

  7. pretend this sign wasn't there for a minute. now imagine walking into the lovely grassy area of the hotel to see what the big excitement is all about. all of a sudden that's one damn important sign!

  8. what are they stupid?
    it's a ceremony called a bris.

  9. I also really like their inconsistent us of 12 and 24 hour time. On the one hand, they use 7 PM, but then they also have the redundant 00:30 AM and 19:00 PM.

  10. I've never been to an outdoor bris. Sorta baffles me...seems unsanitary? Though if you had wandered into the courtyard to find a holy man with a knife standing over a naked baby, I suppose having prior knowledge would be a good thing!

  11. @john: If you are at a hotel and you see an enormous gathering, do you wander over to see what the big celebration's about? It seems unnecessary to me to put a sign up at all.

@jgodsey: Are you quite sure it's always a ceremony, and are you quite sure it's called a bris in every culture?

I would imagine that if privacy is called for, a simple sign informing people that there's going to be a private function would be sufficient. And you could put quotations around private if you really wanted to. :)

  12. And please explain, what is a "grass area"?

  13. If by any chance the circumcision were to be performed on an adult, that would explain its being held in the "grass area."

  14. As the taker of this photograph, I would like to clarify that the circumcision, and the civilised ceremony surrounding it, was conducted within a white marquee tent on the "grass area".

  15. Imagine the bewilderment on the guest’s face when he shows up at the hotel expecting to leave foreskin-free, only to find out has fallen for the old fake circumcision hoax…he has mean friends…

  16. Maybe is going to take that time, beacuse it's a "long long" "weined-dude" (weined = weiner).

  17. I think apologies are being extended to the wrong party - it's the youngster who should be getting the apology. :(

  18. Is it just me who feels like, actually, there might be a Mafia execution or something going down? This not-really-a-circumcision which everyone must be warned away from?

  19. I think this one is legit, too - it's in the "grass area" which we all know is code for crotch.
