Is there some "doing a number" pun that I'm missing on this one? Also, if you click to enlarge and read the red type, you'll find that some non-animal organism is making the mess. Possibly amoeba. Thanks, Kate.
The "doing a number" pun might be referring to either number one or number two. Or else they invented a new dance-centric euphemism for this deed, and I'm all about weird euphemisms!
I agree with the "doing a number" analysis. I do wonder if pet should be in quotation marks, though, since not many people have a wallaby/kangaroo (lower left) or elephant (right) for a pet. However, both of them are, indeed, animals, so those quotation marks really don't make sense.
Yes, "doing a number" refers to both "doing damage" (the usual meaning of the phrase) and doing No. 1 (urine) or No. 2 (feces). Alas, we have two cats who often opt for the latter outside their litter box...
Mario is correct. But people of a certain age ("old") might interpret "doing a number" as smoking a marijuana cigarette. If my pets are "doing a number" on the carpet in that sense, they'd best not bogart that joint (which they've been trained not to).
Hi, does your company remove "numbers" done by my pet winged bull? It does? Fantastic! Cuz we were going to drop him off at the animal shelter and get a Gryphon instead.
Ironically this looks like one of those ad boards they have in the restrooms. Captive audience you know. Could be "doing a number" yourself while seeing that advertising crap:)

ReplyDeleteI bet mario is correct.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the strangest looking pet in the lower left?

ReplyDeleteOkay, definitely the weirdest thing about this is the type of "pet" in the living room...

ReplyDeleteWhat's with the kangaroo?

ReplyDeleteWhat is that HUGE white furry thing with the wagging 'tail' on the far right side???!
ReplyDeleteI'm frightened! Stains are the last thing on my mind with that thing roaming my house!
I don't know, this one is bordering on appropriate, since "doing a number" has no non-idiomatic meaning.
ReplyDeleteI think the large one is an elephant.
