necessary?

Jim and I were in Adams Morgan yesterday and we saw this one, and spent a few minutes trying to decide if the quotes are necessary or not. I think, in the end, I'm gong to decide they are, because it indicates a reference to the Burning Bush Story, not the temple introducing itself. But still, do you see those carved quotation marks? weird.

At first I though some Owls fan was way too self-important.

Those carved quotations marks look suspiciously like jags of lightning.
Just sayin'....

That might be the first time I have ever seen quotation marks carved into a facade sign. Good catch.

I keep finding links to you from the randomest places. Your blog is so "awesome" now. I can't believe I know you! :)

While nonstandard, I liked the way these quote marks evoked thoughts of lightning.
And I agree that they are useful here. On the other hand, without the quotation marks, we could have a Will Smith-esque sequel.

Those quotation marks are correct usage. "I am" refers to God's answer to Moses as to who He was.
