Nick saw this at a place called Big Nose Kate's in Tombstone, AZ. He calls it an "ungodly tourist trap" which might explain why it's not actually a cowboy bar. I am uncertain about whether or not it actually is in the west, though. Or what the definition of "saloon" is that it might not fit.
Where *have* all the cowboys gone?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, the "West" as idealized in John Wayne movies is essentially dead, as is the kind of saloon featured in westerns, as well as the romantic "cowboy" ideal, so maybe the quotation marks are accurate.

ReplyDeleteThat "west" never existed in the first place. It was all genocide and disease, made glamorous by Hollywood. (I'm not even someone who cares about this stuff, I just think it's just amusing to me that the idealized version of this is STILL some people's measure of a "real man")
It's "west" because technically, everywhere is west of somewhere.
ReplyDeleteUQMs everywhere, but no apostrophe in "Kates."
ReplyDeleteit all the kates.
ReplyDeleteand aptly stated, jeff.
