one of the highlights of today's drive from DC to GA is this sign (enhanced but still hard to read; it says: ask "how old they are?").
Starting tomorrow, I'm going to walk up to people and say "how old they are?". Not really, though; that would be weird.

They're arranged as if they're supposed to be steps, but the "steps" are pretty bad.
Step 1 -- check ID.
Step 2 -- ask customer his/her age (even though you just checked the ID, which shows date of birth).
Step 3 -- don't sell anything if he/she doesn't have an ID? But you checked the ID two steps ago!
Step 4 -- lose your job.
Does step 3 say "sell to under age loser" or am I reading that horribly wrong?
It says "Sell to underage - lose your job!"
So funny...this is exactly what I love about this blog!
Well, I'm going to go tell my friend Mr. Age: "Under, don't go there. He'll lose his job if he sells to you."
I'm also assuming "How old they are?" is asking someone their age in some sort of slang or dialect I'm not aware of
It's a good thing they have such detailed instructions. I always thought this was pretty clear, and I've never worked a job that sells anything illegal to people of a certain age. Hmm...maybe that's why.
I think with a little manuevering, this question could lead to a wonderful "Who's On First" routine. I'm just sayin'.
Joe,
If the answer isn't the same as what the ID says, it could be a good "tip-off" that it's a "fake ID"!
"ABC and Tobacco"?
