We've seen a lot of "thank you" before, from the US, but this one is literally halfway around the world - in Mumbai, India. I am not sure if fake-polite means the same thing there, but I bet it does. Thanks, Saumya.
Not sure if this really counts as "unnecessary" quotation marking.
The subject of the verb "to thank" is usually elided, giving an abbreviated "thank you". So the question to be answered is whether the intended sentiment, when written in unabbreviated form, would be:
[we] thank you for shopping with us
or
[we would like to say] "thank you" for shopping with us
Well, they're pretty confident that "Thank You" will do the trick because they included "See You Again Soon." Not "Hope to see you..."

Wow I totally "adore" this "blog"!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are after my own heart :) "Thank you" for making me smile profusely today. I'll be back...
I would like to say "thank you" to commenter #2, hereafter referred to as "Buzz Killington."
ReplyDeleteMeh, at least they didn't hyphenate it. "Thank-you" drives me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI think you mean: We've seen a lot of " "thank you" " before, from the US. N.B. " "thank you" " should itself be in quotes.
