what baby?

I agree with Dan, who says "I have no idea what this sign actually means, so maybe the quotes
technically aren't unnecessary."

  1. Utter insanity on this one!! I lvoe the ellipses as well. So random.

  2. WOW, this is great. I really wish I knew what baby Jones doesn't clean! Where was this even taken?

  3. This was taken in San Francisco (I drive past it 10 times a week). Other signs in their window offer no further explanation for that odd tagline.

  4. How bizarre! Thanks for the further info. :)

  5. Sometimes I think I might get bored with this blog, since it's the same concept post after post, but I realize that's utterly impossible. If you can't laugh at bad punctuation the only alternative is to despair at the hopeless state of the English language. I prefer laughter.

  6. A message is posted at http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?pagenumber=4&threadid=192129 that explains this sign is located at a cleaning service, called Smart Boy Jones, on Hayes near Ashbury. Their motto is: Smart Boy Jones...Cleans Everything but the "Baby."
Considering the service and its name, it makes sense. It's those darn quotation marks and ellipses that make it confusing and bizarre.

No, it really doesn't. Or maybe it's just really bad. I can't tell the difference anymore.

  8. How does that make any sense at all as a slogan for any kind of service?!

  9. to me, it seems a bit like a thinly veiled slogan for a service one might find in the seedier parts of town. everyone has their limits, i guess.

and i love smart guy jones. it opens up such an exciting avenue for nicknames. "they call me dullard mcgraw."

  10. "We wash everything but the baby" used to be a slogan for some kind of laundry detergent many years ago. That doesn't make this sign any better though.

  11. LOL! This is hilarious. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall at the signmaker's office. Did he add the punctuation on his own? Or did "Smart Boy Jones" stand over his shoulder and demand all those ellipses and quotation marks?

  12. In light of the comments, it is possible that "Jones" is his nickname; however, that still doesn't excuse the "baby"!
