we should have done that to prince

So, hang on, are the quotes part of the logo, or is the logo in quotes? Either way, kind of funny. Thanks, ph.

  1. The title absolutely makes this perfect. We should have done this to Prince - indeed!

  2. If you go to Public Radio International you'll see that is, in fact, part of the logo. I think this is acceptable, but still funny.

  3. We're quoting the world! Not a great logo at all, really. Usually public radio has more style than this.

  4. I hate to be the stick-in-the-mud commenter here, but I actually think the logo is clever. It uses somewhat universal symbols to indicate that PRI (Public Radio International) is the "voice of the world", as it were, or at least giving voice to the world. Because many languages use quotation marks to indicate speech, and even more understand what quotation marks mean (e.g., French speakers, who use << >> to indicate speech), I think the logo is quite good.

This does not lessen my utter enjoyment of this blog in general, though. :-)

  5. I totally didn't get "voice of the world" from that. I don't think it's obvious enough to be that clever. Or I'm just an idiot.

On a side note, what does it say about me that, when I first glanced at the picture, I thought "Lebanon" was "lesbian"?

  6. I'm a graphic designer and I didn't find the quotes all that clever myself. When eva explained it, it was like "ohh, I see" but I didn't really resonate with me. Instead, I just got a chuckle out of it.

  7. Frankly, putting quotation marks around an image, instead of text, seems rather, well, stupid.

  8. I am gonna have to go with liking the PRI logo. Do see their site to see it in better context as well. The tagline works with it nicely.

What do quotes mean? Mostly, that someone actually said something. So it works great for an audio-centric company. And the globe hearkens back to the 50's versions (e.g. the U.N.), while using a heavy enough line and tilt that we know they are playing off it.

Yes, I also work as a graphic designer, and interaction designer.
