Ah, the 'weekend warrior.' Friend of pharmacists everywhere. They come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from the "I have to have my pain medicine to get through the weekend, even though I'm out and have no refills left and I know it's Friday after 5:00 but call my doctor now" to those who come in and buy their anti-anxiety meds along with a case of beer. Charming folks, those.
Weekend Warriors are folks who do are sedentary for 5 days a week & then do the week's worth of exercise on the weekends. They constantly get injured, of course.
"Weekend Warriors" was an episode in season one of the extremely awesome tv show "Psych." A good episode, with my favorite quote from the whole series: "Mr. Guster, a Lieutenant Crunch is here to see you" "Actually, I've been promoted. It's now Captain. Captain Crunch."
So I was randomly link hopping and stumbled upon this site. "hilarious." (yeah I'm sure you are sick of people making quotation jokes. sorry) Anyways, I'm an athletic trainer (NOT personal trainer) and in the athletic medical profession they refer to weekend warriors as those who are athletes not regularly participating in organized sports. They are generally the kids who were pretty good at sports in high school but realized they had to get a real job. Now they are 30ish and try to do everything they did when they were 20. I hope you now feel enlightened. Thanks for the laugh and charming blog!

ReplyDeleteIn Aus and the UK someone who is referred to as a "weekend warrior" is a member of the TA/Army Reserve (not sure what the equivalent in the US is).
ReplyDeleteWeekend Warriors are clearly people who are warriors ALL WEEK, but like the nickname "Weekend Warriors".
