The recent tragic death of actor Heath Ledger has many people feeling a sense of mourning and loss. He was so young and he has passed too soon. He seemed to exhibit such talent. I personally appreciate a truly gifted actor who then shuns stardom and the trappings thereof. I'm saddened by his death, and perhaps even more-so by the media's obsession with trying to expose what may have been Mr. Ledger's personal demons.
However, on the morning news they were covering the funeral arrangements and I caught a shot of the awning outside of Frank E. Campbell "The Funeral Chapel" and I felt better.
It's actually a speakeasy.
Too soon?

too soon about heath ledger. i am in shock here. i love your blog. i always come here when i am having a really bad day. some of your posts make me laugh my ass off. dont stop
that was supposed to read, 'too sad about heath...'
Never too soon. I think you should be able to laugh at the little things in life even in its darkest hours. If it was my own mother's funeral and I saw that, I would at leat try to chuckle.
Life's too short, as the past few days have reminded us.
not too soon. it saddens me that his family has to go through this. but to put "a Funeral Chapel" in quotation marks. that says nothing about the tragedy that is Heath Ledgers death. it does however say a lot about that funeral home and it's sad sad mis-use of quotations. Hilarious.
lol. yes, probably a bit too soon.
I think if Heath appreciated the humor in misused quotation marks, its not too soon. Since I'm pretty sure none of us will ever know if he did, I'll still say its not too soon. You could have taken that photo from anywhere and not even mentioned Heath Ledger to avoid being politically incorrect. I think it, in a backwards sort of way, is a tribute to his life by finding humor in a small thing like that.
I'm sad about his death too. He wasn't my favorite actor or anything, but I still feel tied to him in someway that makes me sadder than I usually am to hear about a celebrity's death. Maybe that's the beauty in Heath Ledger's life and why it's so prominently featured. He was an actor who could make the average movie watcher feel connected to the character and the actor, without ever having met him. He will be missed.
For those who didn't see this on Fark yesterday: go to Google Translate, type in Heath Ledger and translate from English to Spanish...
Can it ever be too soon for some ill-used quotation mark hilarity? Let's laugh through the pain.
when my grandfather died, and we were riding to the cemetery, my cousin and i both saw a sign advertising cemetery plots that, for whatever reason, we found hilarious. i don't remember specifically why (this was several years ago), but it could indeed have been some misplaced quotation marks. we looked at each other and busted out laughing. it felt pretty good in the midst of all the sadness.
so - not too soon. you paid your blog-respects in your own way.
haha! i, too, saw that and thought of your blog.
I agree about the media, they're the ones being ridiculous. Your post and that picture? Fabulous.
Yes, it should be a funeral home's responsibility to honor the families who bury their dead. Bad grammar is no honor.
Gallows humor. I've seen a lot of joking going on at wakes. Anyone who scolds people for that should keep those thoughts for another time and let people deal in their own ways.
Never too soon - we must find humor in all things because otherwise life would be too hard to handle.
Oops... I mean too "hard" to handle.
Or was that "too hard" to handle?
