Wedding photographer Rachel found this one on a gig. There are plenty of things to love about this sign, but I think the clear winner is "we can make your wedding". Great slogan.
I think this example goes beyond unnecessary and straight to overkill. However, as I see more and more examples on this blog, I wonder whether some people just haven't figured out a more suitable way to emphasize particular words on their signs, so they just throw quotation marks at them.
Hah! I see that now. I still haven't been able to read the whole sign. Well, it does make sense. After all, wouldn't you want to have your wedding done by a place called Cocke N Kettle? Maybe they do honeymoon planning, too!
There ought to be a fine levied on the creators of this sign. A typographical task force, I say. I just don't comprehend the excessive use of quotation marks highlighted in this blog. I'm hoping its ignorance and not just laziness.

I seriously think I got a little seasick looking at this one.
The is my first time commenting here, so - hello!

Haha, I found this blog by accident because you mentioned "Peculiar People" in a post last year and I own a writing business by that name.
Anyway, I'm a writer and editor, so found this blog to be highly amusing. I'll be back!
Whoa. This one made my eyes bleed.
Seriously, is this one for real? Could anyone possibly overuse/misuse quotations so many times on one "simple" sign???? It's quite disturbing!
how does this happen??!???
This is "too" funny. Congrats on being the first blog to make me laugh out loud repeatedly. I'll now have a keen eye for unnecessary quotes.
This one just HAS to win the prize for most overused and worst placed quotes!
Okay, Bethany, I'm onto you! You had to have gotten this made just to post. No one in their right mind would do that!
wow... just plain wow.
One set of quotes is missing: "hostess"
Do they think quotation marks are a design element and not part of grammar? Regardless, the sign looks like crap and makes no sense with the quotes!
i'm now blind.
I couldn't get past the first line. Is that first word Corke or Cocke? Seems like Cocke would make the whole thing a lot more interesting!
This one needs to go into the Hall of Fame.
Yowser. What the heck were these people smoking?
Hey, 7thgen: Believe it or not, it's "Cocke." Look at the silhouette on the kettle.
I tink I'm going to be seriously ill. *laugh*
