hold on, I LOVE academic colons. Unless I can't think of something clever to put before it.
I think they want to differentiate between a "party" like a gathering and a "party" like a group. It's not a wedding bash or anything, just the group with the wedding.
If this wedding isn't really a party, I don't think that bodes well for the marriage... Thanks Stephen.
