Richard's commentary about this picture, (available here) really captures it. Evidently the makers of this ad are equivocating on the use of all pronouns.
almost as funny is the fact that richard's website has not only unnecessary but also incomplete quotation marks on the left sidebar. (at least in my browser--sometimes I can't see everything if it's in a table or something, but in my view there's just an opening unnecessary mark!)
Hmmm. msm has another weird tic on his blog, unnecessary spaces in quotations. He seems to have an aversion for ( putting parentheses next to actual letters ).
Not sure I'd describe myself as a kid, though at 29, I am young at heart, I suppose. The left sidebar only appears for the first 5 times a person visits a site The double-quotation mark at the beginning was a typo. Thanks for pointing it out!
What's this about unnecessary spaces in quotations? Can you tell me where I did that?
And thanks to the bloggers for linking to me. :) There's enough material in my hometown for a whole blog about the subject. My dad always points out stuff like ".99 cents" (sometimes with the quotation marks actually on the sign) and wonders if he can get what they're selling for a penny.
"They" and "you" are inexplicable (as is the general theme of the poster), but I like to think that the "who" is a grudging concession to the gradual death of "whom" in our day.
Perhaps you should start carrying copies of a grammar and usage manual, to be distributed freely to people who are ignorant of punctuation (not to mention objective case pronouns like "whom"). You could be like a Jehovah's Witness, only you'd distribute useful literature.

that's pretty funny. And sad.

Come now, give the kid a break. Or at least link to your own writing if you're going to criticize someone.

As long as "they" know enough to call "Ghostbusters," we'll all be okay.

Wow, I guess "I'm" not "me."
Really enjoyed reading your blog...i never took notice to how often quotations were used....very funny now that i really take a look at them!
The lack of "Whom" there is just too unsettling. It looks wrong to me and reads even worse. That's a damn shame.
